INFORMATION

Mamie Heldman (they/she) is a photographer and visual artist currently based in New York City and Nashville, TN.

They earned their BA in Communications at the University of Tennessee, and are a graduate of the Documentary Photography and Visual Journalism program at the International Center of Photography.

Coming of age in the American South shaped their understanding of nostalgia’s relationship to history and the metaphors that form as a result. Using the social landscape as a backdrop for visual storytelling, they are interested in dissecting how culture can both inform and constrain identity.

Working within femme and queer narratives, they are currently concerned with ideas of ritual, relic, religion and romance.
